'The Sun', Collage 9"x12" 2021

Artist Statement

“Creating work deeply rooted in human emotion, I often implement themes involving sex and sexuality, hidden identities and femininity. Playing off of Carl Jung’s idea of a shadow self, many of my works seek to identify the parts of humanity that we tend to hide from others and even ourselves. Primarily implementing sculpture and photography, I also make use of other practices and processes when the piece desires a mixture of mediums. Holding space for self-reflection and the reflection of the viewer, much of the work resides in a slightly abstract realm where objects hold intense meaning.”

Artist Bio

Star Herrera is an interdisciplinary artist living in New York. She received her BA in Art from the University at Albany.
