Director of Advancement
30 Hours Per Week / Part-Time Salary, Exempt
$65,000-$75,000 Salary Range, Based on Experience
The Director of Advancement is responsible for all aspects of fundraising and will collaborate with Collar Works’ leadership team to coordinate baseline annual fundraising targets with organizational strategic objectives and a budget. This key senior leadership position will develop a long-term fundraising plan, outline initiatives, and work closely with the Executive Director, Artistic Director, and Board of Directors to strategize and generate contributed revenue for Collar Work’s annual operating budget. Additionally, the Director of Advancement will assist with fundraising efforts in support of the comprehensive Future Fund Campaign for Collar Works’ expansion, which includes the capital project at 206 1st Street in Troy, NY.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the Executive Director to develop annual fundraising goals, identify fundraising strategies, and collaborate with the Board of Directors and key staff to implement these strategies.
Donor Management
- Develop donor management and engagement plan
- Steward existing key donors and identify and cultivate new major donors
- Create new opportunities for donor engagement
- Develop and implement annual appeals and other campaigns as needed
- Oversee internal systems for collecting, managing, and leveraging donor data to inform fundraising strategies
- Ensure systems and procedures to track cultivation activities, gift entries, and donor acknowledgments are effective, timely, and responsive
- Develop fundraising collateral as needed
Grant Management
- Develop a grant schedule to target and apply for federal, state, and local granting organizations
- Identify regional and national foundations that align with institutional projects and mission
- Maintain grants calendar, including due dates and deadlines for proposal submissions, and required reports (quarterly, interim, and final)
Corporate Giving
- Create a corporate prospect pipeline
- Develop a corporate giving matrix
Capital Campaign
- Assist with the tracking of expenses for project and grant activities
- Expand the pipeline of donors for the capital project.
- Work with the Campaign advisory team to develop strategies to raise additional funds for the upcoming $7.5 million Future Fund Campaign to create a sustainable capacity growth fund to establish a permanent workforce and to expand, enhance, and increase financial support for artists and programs.
- Set philanthropic milestones and metrics to track campaign projects and evaluate strategies as the campaign progresses
Special Events
- Provide vision and set goals for fundraising and cultivation events
- Work with the Executive Director, Artistic Director, and Board of Directors to develop and execute events
Other Duties
- Work with the Board of Directors to support and guide their active participation in fundraising
- Serve as the staff liaison for the Board of Directors Development Committee; serve on other Board committees (Finance, Governance, Executive) as needed
- Review, refine, develop, and implement written procedures to guide funds management
Core Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Strong communication skills as it relates to donor cultivation and grant writing.
- Familiarity and proficiency with CRM and or fundraising software, ideally Give Butter, Little Green Light, or a comparable platform
- Passion for advocacy and relationship-building
- Focused on team and organizational culture and the values of the organization
- Demonstrated leadership and project management skills
- Competency with digital productivity tools, including Microsoft 365 (especially Word and Excel), design tools (Adobe, Canva), and digital marketing tools (website, Constant Contact, Facebook, Instagram), etc
- Availability to work ~30 hours per week, onsite. Typically, Monday through Friday, within the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility for off-hours events and assignments as needed.
- Reliable transportation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor in the arts, humanities, business, or a related field required; Master preferred - Seven to ten years of development experience with successively advancing roles, preferably in an arts organization or similar cultural organization
- A proven record of successful fundraising that includes major gifts and grants to meet planned strategic goals
- Proven managerial experience within a positive work environment
- Effective and congenial communication skills, both written and verbal
- Must be well-organized, punctual
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task effectively
Compensation & Term
- Position will be a part-time, exempt, salaried position with annual compensation ranging between $65,000-$75,000 based on experience.
- Position will be a two-year contract, with yearly performance expectations and benchmarks based on fundraising milestones to reach sustainable philanthropy goals by 2027.
