Broken Statue with Polka Dot Pigeons, Mixed Media Collage on wooden panel, 12 x 12 inches, 2020.

Artist Statement

After twenty-five years collecting objects and creating surreal tableau's in the medium of hand-tinted photography, Robert Gullie has drifted towards mixed media collage as a departure from the oddities of the everyday. The result is a collection of works full of surreal imagery that is reminiscent of being unexpectedly stirred from a dream.

Robert Gullie’s works evolve from the deconstruction of vintage and popular print media combined with a passion for history and simplistic painting techniques inspired by contemporary folk art. Each collage becomes a revelation in which a vibrant world emerges, layered with emotion and fantasy, obsessions and humor.
