Artist Statement

Kristen Heritage is a textile and mixed media artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her sculptures, embroideries and paintings embody slow ruminations on the ways that consumer products and digital images serve as reservoirs for memories, individual emotions and identities, rendered in a blend of careful hand craft and digitally aided fabrication techniques. Employing symbols lifted from computer interfaces and fantasy blended with scenes and objects from everyday life, Heritage's work stitches together escapism and mysticism as soft armor around an emotional core threatened by the nihilism and banality of the contemporary experience.
