Artist Statement

“My work is what I like to call collage painting, where instead of cutting and pasting found material I am reproducing those images with oil or acrylic paint, colored pencils, graphite, and pastels. My reference materials come from films, television, art history, advertisements, and pornography. These materials are within my immediate surroundings. For example, an illustration is lifted from a childhood book, or an interior is a screenshot from a movie I had watched the night before. They're clues to my lived experience, arranged together ambiguous enough that the viewer is able to create their own narrative.”

Artist Bio

I am a mixed media painter and third generation San Diegan. I graduated as a double majored in art history and studio art at Humboldt State University in 2018. I lived and worked in Humboldt county as an artist assistant for several years after graduation, but have returned to my hometown of San Diego, CA in recent years where I maintain a studio in the basement of a shopping mall.
