Drawing upon gestures borne of the digital age, prove your humanity aims to rekindle the physical, igniting the human desire for longing, desire, and connection. The wandering lines of notpaulsimon’s light sculptures weave and swipe through space unmediated: wires exposed and tubes bundled. Foregoing digital fabrication techniques in favor of direct material manipulation, the work recovers the sense of humanity that is lost in digital mediation. In a world where our movement is tracked, monitored, and commodified, prove your humanity aims to reclaim the gestures that make us human.
Paul Simon, also known as notpaulsimon, is a Romanian-American artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. As a sculptor with a background in human biology and commercial photography, Simon creates a fantastical world in which materialities are present and absent, both hiding in plain sight and as objects of the digital imaginary.
Born in Southern California and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Simon graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2016. Soon after, he moved to New York City and received his MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts (2019).
