Artist Statement
Through the lens of my own life as a woman and mother, I represent figures that are in various states of coming into or out of acceptance with their ability to affect the space that they inhabit. My paintings acknowledge the spaces that women are given to exist in and their appropriateness. The space of a home can be a place of paradox. While it houses loved ones and moments of comfort, the home can also be a place of isolation and exhaustion. Motherhood intensifies the complexities of the home space. It is a place of great strength and dignity but it is also a place of great cost. In my work, I take into consideration this push and pull of the home space and the necessity of exiting it at times for well being. Through their honesty and struggle, my figures are connecting to their personal power and growth.
