Artist Statement

Jessica Palermo is a multidisciplinary artist and mother residing in Los Angeles, CA. Palermo works in a variety of mediums including acrylic, oil, and graphite. Her work explores feelings attached to defining moments in time and the inevitable transience that follows. Motherhood, domesticity, and sexuality are some of the the themes represented through abstract figurations, that suggest the fundamental human process of erasure and reinvention. The combination of Palermo’s gestural brushstrokes and rhythmic layers of color result in a deliberate union between both the ephemeral and abiding aspects of memory.

Artist Bio

Originally from Henderson, NV, Palermo currently resides in Los Angeles with her partner and 3 children. After studying History of Art, Art Practice, & Gender Studies at the University of California, Berkeley she went on to spend the next 15 years in the fashion world; initially in trend forecasting and then as senior footwear designer for multiple contemporary special occasion brands. Parenthood, priorities, and a pandemic incited a transition out of design and into art making full time in her East Hollywood studio.
