“This is my home. This dark, bone black inner cave where I am making a world for myself.”- bell hooks "Bone Black". I work as a painter and printmaker primarily within an abstract figurative framework. I employ color to further explore emotional depths and frequencies. Color can elicit a physical response of elation in my body and that is what I strive to convey in each of my paintings. My work explores the psychology and physicality of being human. I am interested in how one’s inner experience can often remain hidden and differ so much from the outward projection that others receive. My paintings are a way to bring forward my struggles with depression and try to make clear what feels mysterious and unknowable. Most recently, my work centers around my transition into motherhood where I suffered a loss of self, and am piecing it back together through my art.
