Artist statement

My drawings are meditative visions that evolve spontaneously and without a preconceived finished image. Since becoming a mother, these drawings have become a nightly practice that I can get lost in while making them. As I draw, the forms and shapes behold rhythmic patterns. I start in the upper left corner and begin drawing on the paper in an up and down mark making process that travels across the paper. I only use paper, pencil, and a sharpener, no erasures. Accidental marks are fine with me; I am attracted to the handmade quality of the process, right or wrong. Plants, flora, the sun and ideas of growth are present. Many different cultural symbolisms of rebirth and new beginnings excite me. I think about creating a meaningful play on organic shapes while seeking a beautiful, bizarre image at the same time. They are wonderful to make and are endless in surprises.
