Artist statement
I take the whimsy and practicality out of the Pantone Color System and apply the design structure of that system to graver world issues. The individual interventions comment on international concerns and personal codes by using color, image and pattern as “symbol”. While using this Pantone structure/format, each idea is established with explanatory text under the image. The "interventions" mimic but subvert the Pantone Color System by infusing a topical issue of existential importance into a design system that is used worldwide. The different works shift from the emotional to the political…to the realm of the art idea. The “whole” becomes a collection of thoughts in the style of a diary. The varying narratives create a record of my experiences and viewpoints with approximately 110 created since 2019. They are posted in public places where they are photographed in situ, sometimes left to be regarded by the elements.
