Artist statement
I delve into issues facing women and marginalized people through art. I use ceramics to explore my own experience or stories of others that might be overlooked. I am interested in exploring compassion. This piece, Beauty in the Broken, comes from my own experience of being tired…as a mother, as a spouse, as an empath, as a person surviving a pandemic, as an American living in a politically divided landscape. Although I am tired, I also acknowledge there can be beauty in the struggle. I am reminded of a quote by Elizabeth Kübler-Ross: “The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, a sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.”
Artist bio
Amy Branch-Lambert is a Dallas/Fort Worth based artist. After spending 25 years as a chaplain she transitioned to working as an artist. Her work often deals with marginalized people and issues facing women…usually in a serious way, occasionally using humor. Amy has worked most recently in ceramics using traditional methods as well as experimental techniques such as slip-dipping and firing found items in porcelain. Amy has exhibited in juried shows across the US since 2016 allowing her to win several awards along the way. Most recently, she won 1st place in sculpture of the 35th Texas and Neighbors Regional Art Exhibit. Amy is married with one teenaged son at home, grown and flown step-daughters, 3 grandchildren and a sweet and sassy dog.
