Julia Terry "Pleasure Is Rest"

$0.00
NFS

Hand Cut Paper, 8.5 x 11", July 2021, $250

Artist Statement

Through an intimate practice of cut paper selfies and portraiture, my work aims to make the political personal by exploring rest, sensuality, boundaries, and pleasure as resistance and antidotes to the toxic urgency, disconnection from our bodies, and dehumanization of capitalism, patriarchy, and white supremacy culture. Many of my pieces are inspired by story circles I facilitated on boundaries and consent during the pandemic.

Artist Bio

Julia Terry is a Philadelphia-based visual artist, facilitator, and mom. A Leeway Art and Change grant recipient, her work explores the personal and collective struggle to free ourselves from oppressive systems and find new ways of being and relating, and aims to notice and honor universal and sacred points of connection between humans, and between people and the natural world. Julia’s art was recently exhibited at the Stay Home Gallery, and can be found on the cover of "Re-Writing the Return to Africa," by Anne Francios and in "Affirming Diversity: The Sociopolitcal Context of Multicultural Education," by Sonia Nieto and Patty Bode.
