Grace Stott, "Lounging Ladies"
ceramic and gold luster / 10” x 20” x 1” / 2021 / $900
Artist statement
My work is centered around my identity as a multicultural Latinx, a new mother, and a bored millennial filled with existential dread. Through ceramics and mixed media installations, I explore imagery ranging from the mundane to the ridiculous but always nostalgic. Candy-coated pop culture icons contrast with the ancient clay material to create surreal, psychedelic narratives that confuse and delight. Like a cluttered phone screen, my pieces are built modularly to fit together forming unexpected relationships through free association.
