Artist Statement

Every moment, every sentiment and memory we cherish contains multitudes that may not hang in museums, but perhaps deserve to. My work is a distillation of the illusory nature of hierarchies. It is an attempt to disassemble the visual language of art history and present their elements in a new context. Contrasting grandiosity with the mundane, truthful, and visceral. These hierarchies imposed by those in power constrict our assessment of what is worthy and what is not; and in doing so they drain the living world of the art inherent within it. This hierarchical deconstruction has helped me to shirk the idea that art is always such serious business; the idea that our work must be justified by the thoughts of dead philosophers and an austerity of color. That painting moments of my experience as a queer woman, is inherently an act of defiance to the straight capitalistic status quo.
