BIO

Jasmine Chock (b. 1999, Plano, TX) is an artist based in Austin, TX who works in a unique variety of 3D materials, photography and video. She greatly enjoys making things- art, food, useful objects, or a combination of the three. She graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 2021 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art.

STATEMENT

I curiously explore human relationships with everyday objects, routines and traditions. In my work, I create a humorous, uncanny intimacy through a nonsensical juxtaposition of objects and environments that subverts their usual purposes. I make sculpture using sewing, ceramics, food, bathroom facilities, and more, and I employ photography and video to document the performative interventions my work provides. I am interested in creating these strange relationships as a way to explore the sense of belonging and comfort humans innately search for in their everyday lives. Asking the viewer, “what does it mean to routinely feel comfort and experience joy?” My work provides humorous, yet sometimes unrealistic, solutions for finding these attributes.
