Villainous Varnishes is a freelancer with 10+ years of experience as a Licensed Cosmetologist. Self taught special effects makeup artist, photographer and wardrobe designer. Clients include Harvard University (Día de los Muertos event), Salem Witches’ Ball and The Year of the Dead Calendar. Work featured on HGTV, Arterpreneur, To Better Days UK, among others.
STATEMENT
I am a self portrait photographer who draws inspiration from various journaling exercises. My art is an extension of the visuals from my dreams, with roots in real life experiences. The beauty found in this darkness disturbs the comforted and comforts the disturbed. The attached works, “Silent Possession”, “Confessions” and “All my Hope”, represent different stages in the journey to heal from trauma and find one’s voice.
