BIO
Meuffy (“MUFF-ee”) (b. 1993) is an emerging and self-taught artist and writer based in Seattle, originally from New York. She began oil painting to process her existential questions and fears, and as a creative outlet to contrast her work as an attorney. Meuffy has shown her work in Figure|Ground Gallery and Ghost Gallery, and has been published by Createur Zine and Apricity Press.
STATEMENT
Understanding herself primarily as a human attempting to live intentionally amongst rigid societal norms, Meuffy’s work celebrates the feminine energy she had long felt pressured to suppress. Meuffy’s work explores themes of truth, environment, quantum physics, and the mystical experience. Through her intuitive process, Meuffy renders figure paintings with movement and emotion; dreamy color juxtapositions; and exquisitely feminine and empowering compositions. Her work hovers between representational and abstract; she simplifies her figures to the same elements as their surroundings, baring our incredible reality of energy and space. In her most recent work, Meuffy dives into a practice of vulnerability through self-portraiture, reclaiming and retelling her body and soul’s story.
