Artist Statement

Steve Chiu is a process based artist, working across analog and digital mediums to generate visual metaphors for immaterial feelings and ideas. self-referential in nature, Steve’s visual language draws upon writings and sketches created through abstraction and observation to generate forms and shapes steeped in memory and emotion. Deeply intrigued by the act of translating between digital and physical drawings, Steve’s compositions are infused with playfulness, experimentation, and modularity, working to inspire the viewer to live joyfully.

Artist Bio

Steve Chiu is an artist and advocate who works and lives out of New York City, New York, but often finds himself in strange corners of the physical & digital world. Steve earned a Bachelor of Science from the Ohio State University, with a minor in studio arts in 2014: focusing his studies on painting and sculpture. Since 2014, Steve has represented a humanitarian aid organization, Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, at the United Nations, working across the 17 Sustainable Development Goals to cultivate community, share best practices, and develop programs with other organizations to make tangible impacts on the ground, with the mission of alleviating the suffering of the most vulnerable. With over 22 years of experience in community based development and local interfaith partnership, Steve seeks to connect the importance of grassroots action to policies that are being developed on the international level.
