Kelsey Renko - SUN MON TUES WED TH FRI SAT (Spray paint and oil paint on canvas, 8" x 10", 2019)
My body, the hair it grows, and the things I do in it, are the subjects of my paintings. The paintings I make are manifestations of the trials and tribulations of being a woman such as daily battles with my body image, relationships, and anxiety. I appreciate how human I can make a shape feel by adding short quick marks that feel like stubble from a two-day-old shave, or how the way patterns can turn into clothes and blankets that wrap around them.
