Claudine Metrick - Still Life With Onions (colored pencil on paper, 5" x 5.5", 2017)
These drawings are a record of my surroundings at home - a meditation on the beauty infused in everyday life. I began them in 2017 after the death of one of my closest friends. I was devastated. Drawing these became a practice in the truest sense of the word – a way to engage with the world and create each day in order to process the enormity of my experiences. The parameters of the project were simple – draw small, draw from observation, and draw simply. The result are a collection of 34 diminutive colored pencil pieces made in my sketchbook.
