Theresa McTague - Bikini Ride (gouache and watercolor on paper, 8" x 8", 2019)
While using memories as a focus in my work, I create something that is universally identified with, even if the initial story is very personal to my own experiences. My experience as a woman within society and day-to-day life is also a focus of my work. I withhold the entirety of an experience but reveal fragments of the picture, a peep-hole into an invented scene or another world. Whether the stories are real or imagined from vivid imagery in dreams or in real-life, I work with gouache and watercolors in bright and energetic colors.
