Joan Linder - Wegman's Large Grade AA (ink on paper, 12" x 18", 2020)
For years, I have been making drawings packed with thousands, even hundreds of thousands of tiny, energized marks, and have taken inspiration from my observations of my immediate surroundings. Most of the drawings are life size and often are large-scale images of quotidian subjects. This drawing is one from a series of a dozen drawings of empty or almost empty egg cartons. The works are a meditation on food, fertility and packaging. In this series, I isolate each image - iconically yet with specificity—on its own white page and as a member of a larger family.
