Juan Hinojosa 'Corner of 4th and 2nd'
Drawer 2- Corner of 4th and 2nd, Mixed media on paper (photograph, fabric, note, ink and found objects on paper), 12 x 9in, 2015
Artist Statement
Constructing art with exclusively found materials has changed the way I look at every discarded object around me and in my city. Using these ready made objects represent the twisted idealistic goals of the American dream. As many Americans, I am conflicted by consumerism, and my works are a result of my own bad habits, desires, and American.
Artist Bio
Juan Hinojosa mixed-media artist who currently lives and works in New York. Constructed from found objects, his complex collage-drawings intimately challenge greed, obsessive consumption, and the social stratification of American culture. Hinojosa received his BFA from Parsons School of Design and was awarded residencies at Material for the Arts (New York), the Vermont Studio Center (Vermont), and Aljira Center for Contemporary Art (New Jersey). His acceptance into the first New York Foundation for the Arts “Artist Boot Camp” in 2010 led to an interview and photo in the New York Times. Hinojosa’s solo exhibitions include “Blonde Ambition” at Materials for the Arts (New York), “Framing AIDS” at the Queens Museum of Art (New York), and the 2011 Biennial at El Museo del Barrio (New York).
