Joe Piscopia 'Emerging Delights'
Emerging Delights, Colored Pencil on Paper, 7" x 6.25 " 2000
Artist Statement
My art is an exploration in abstraction where use carefully rendered gradations and chiaroscuro to depict amorphous shapes. Or at times geometric in nature. My imagination is an investigation of feelings that have or had affected me for my premise in art. As the reality of life can take on many emotional moments passing through a single day I see my work as an illumination of these moments. The results verify my feeling, emotions and thoughts underscoring a tangible documentation through which many shapes, colors, and designs take hold and constructed in an abstract way.
Artist Bio
As an abstract artist my art comes from many depths. I am a graduate from The School of Visual Arts, and though my strength was in illustration I now create art as a fine artist. I have always found using detail, shading and form that I used earlier in my career has stayed with me in my work today. I have exhibited in various locations in NYC including The GroundfloorBklyn Gallery, Andrew Edlin Gallery, and as Employee at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. My workplace at the museum enhances and inspires my daily practice to create art. I have a studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn where I continually work from.
