Jackie Meier 'Let's Split'
Drawer 4- Let’s Split, watercolor on paper, 10 x 11”, 2020
Artist Statement
As a child I often let my eyes wander on the ground floor of the woods outside my home. I would imagine small creatures living under the princess pine, the strange ivy with bright red berries and the miniature saplings and other small plants. I turned this childhood fantasy into reality by becoming a painter, I create my own felt and thought environments. Using color and shape, I draw and paint shapes that represent my thoughts and use colors of my emotions. The places weave and move, the intersections sharp and precise, show my way of perceiving and reinterpreting the world around me. I push boundaries and edges to use geometric shaped color to morph retreat, grow large and then disappear. I am showing a place where my mind and heart can live through the making of a painting with my hands.
