Artist Statement

This series of photographs uses familiar plant life and store-bought embellishments to examine the parameters of the natural world and our expectations of its physicality. These works explore the literal and symbolic relationships we form with biological materials, synthesizing popular decorative conventions, the psychology of plant care, and connotations of adornment. Employing digital photography as an intermediary recalls the identity-forming qualities of self-representation while also alluding to the use of possession, consumption, and ornamentation to form a sense of self.
