Katria Foster - Domestic Affair 15 (Ultra Chrome Print, 20" x 16", 2020)
This work explores the physical and mental spaces of domestic life, through the female perspective. I combine the duality of emotions women feel within the domestic sphere; feelings of restlessness, anxiety and loneliness coupled with those of comfort, safety, and quiet. Within familiar spaces I reflect the intimacy of one who is perceived as being at home in the space, or—in contrast—caged by the space. I look to create space and moments in time that are unclear yet familiar. The figures often remain faceless to add further ambiguity, intensifying the sense of isolation.
