Joseph Dolinsky - Green and Orange Drip (Plaster pigments and dyes, 10" x 12" x 4", 2020)
The process is a driving force in my work. My sculptures are created by carving an abstract void into a solid block of clay, then pouring plaster that I’ve mixed with dyes and pigments into that void. This allows the movement of color to spontaneously integrate into the fabric of the work itself, as opposed to applying paint to the surface. When I peel away the clay mold, the sculpture is revealed. The works can be seen as a painting existing with in the same space as the sculpture, reflecting the interconnected nature of the physical and the psyche.
