K'era Morgan, "I'm Not Alone Atoll"

$3,500.00

2023
Mixed media collage painting

EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Always considering nature and how it’s a true reflection of the human experience, I looked to an atoll as a beautiful metaphor for capturing the essence of motherhood; the coral reef acts as a guardian to the peaceful lagoon within. This protective barrier symbolizes a mother’s dedication to creating a secure and loving environment for her children. Just as the lagoon’s calm waters foster diverse marine life, a mother’s care and protection nurture her children’s growth, providing a foundation of stability and love amidst life’s uncertainties. This painting was completed as I awaited the arrival of my first and only child and musings of what it meant/means to mother, nurture and care for another became more and more prevalent.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My abstract paintings are born from an intuitive process where I arrive at the blank canvas with only a loose sketch or notion of the final outcome. I let the art take shape organically layering bold fields of color and layers of marks and at times, found paper into the composition to create delicately layered and dynamic pieces.

My inspiration comes from the natural environment however it is less about mimicking its visual forms, and more about channeling its instinctual, rhythmic essence. I see nature as a mirror reflecting back insights about our shared human experience and the current status of the collective psyche and wellbeing. In turn, the work I create explores the parallels between literal and metaphorical landscapes and our inner terrain, organic patterns and the mind's ephemeral currents.
