EXHIBITION STATEMENT
As a mother caring for two young children, I have naturally had to adapt my methods of working to be more flexible in both a physical and time-efficient way. This has encouraged me to work with alternative materials such as inks, prints and collage, as opposed to my habitual oil paint, allowing me to be adaptable to working locations and with less pressure of time constraints. Despite the frustration of being time-poor, the influence of these new mediums on my overall practice is energizing and inspiring.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Exploring and dissecting the female figure is at the core of my art practice, enabling me to process the effects of the modern world as a woman and mother. Drawing on the turbulence of subconscious bias and the mental and physical toll of modern motherhood, I use photographic collage and drawing as the starting point to scrutinize figures. These explorative works develop to form the basis of my oil paintings. The modifications and reworkings unravel the relationship between the physical and psychological self through to an undecorated and calm conclusion.

Figurative artist Helen Stotesworthy lives and works in London, UK. After graduating with a degree in Fine Art Painting, she moved into a successful career working for several renowned galleries and artists in London. She has recently returned to the studio, with her newest work considering the female form, focusing on strength and vulnerability through an evolving method of drawing, collage, and oil painting. Her works are held in private collections in the UK, USA and Sweden.
