Nasty Women of the North
a group exhibition and weekend festival

Collar Works Gallery and The Arts Center of the Capitol Region are pleased to announce, Nasty Women of the North, a group exhibition and weekend festival of events that serves to demonstrate solidarity among artists who identify with being a “Nasty Woman”.  Organized by Madison LaVallee and Claire Sherwood, Nasty Women of the North exhibits artwork by over 100 regional and nationally recognized artists. All artwork exhibited is available for purchase, 100% of sales are donated to Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood.  

The ONE NIGHT ONLY art sale to benefit Planned Parenthood will be held from 5:00-9:00pm on Friday, October 27th at Collar Works Gallery, with a SOLD OUT Preview Dinner: Making In The Margins, being held the eve before. The exhibition will be accompanied by a weekend-long series of performances and events designed to cultivate discourse within and across communities increasingly at risk during this critical moment. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27th, 5pm-9pm: Nasty Women of the North Exhibition at Collar Works Gallery

Featuring over 100 regional international artists, participate in Feminist Love Letters, a project developed through social engagement byartist Melissa Sarris

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28th

11-1 pm at Collar Works: Participate in our MoonBee (SewingBee): “The MoonCatcher Project provide reusable, washable, menstrual pads that can be worn without underwear to girls in the poorest communities worldwide. These pads make going to school while menstruating possible and this helps keep girls in school.”

12 pm at Collar Works: Poetry and Discussion: Women Writers/Poets and The Elephant in the Room: What's Race Got to Do with Me and My Creative Work. “An open discussion of the presence--or absence--of race in creative work, with special attention to the influences and effects of institutional racism.” Organized by Dawn Marar

1pm Performance at the Arts Center by The Magdalens: a female fronted, feminist, alt-folk/rock band based in Albany, N.Y.

3pm at the Arts Center: !Women Art Revolution Film Screening and roundtable discussion: A film by Lynn Hershman Leeson Through intimate interviews, art, and rarely seen archival film and video footage, !Women Art Revolution reveals how the Feminist Art Movement fused free speech and politics into an art that radically transformed the art and culture of our times.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29th

2pm at the Arts Center: Creative Action Unlimited presents "Our Now". “Our Now is a 40-45 minute documentary theater performance which focuses on issues of class, race, gender, inequality, equity and balance.”

• 3pm at the Arts Center: Rite of Passage: “A participatory performance piece that explores death, liminality, and rebirth through the lens of Erin Helfert’s five-year rape trial in a Moroccan court.” - Erin Helfert, performance artist + Nina C. Young, composer and sound artist.
