I Wrote You a Love Letter
work by Jordan Baker

February 14-28, 2014
Artist Reception: Friday, February 14th from 6 to 10pm

Collar Works is pleased to announce I Wrote You A Love Letter, an exhibition of twenty love letters and a documented performance by Capital Region artist Jordan Baker, opening on Valentine’s Day.

I Wrote You a Love Letter is an ongoing project Baker began in response to the pressure women feel to be an endless sources of love.  If a woman’s value is related to how much loving attention she exudes, would the perfect woman fall in love with everyone she met?

Baker writes love letters to people in her daily life: coworkers, acquaintances, friends, professors.  She delivers the letters via post to both female and male subjects, only to have them borrowed back by the artist to display.  This exhibition brings up issues of vulnerability, the exhaustion of embodying a role, and the invisible labor of caretaking.
