THE 2ND ANNUAL GREAT ART SWAP OF TROY, NY- Local artists only!

Collar Works is excited to announce valiant return of The Great Art Swap- The game where everyone wins!

Come one, come all to the Great Art Swap of Troy, NY on Saturday, June 8th from 6-8 PM! You’d be a fool not to join in!

We invite all local artists to participate! Bring 1-2 pieces from your own studio, and leave with 1-2 new pieces of art. It’s a great way to build new connections and your collection!

HOW IT WORKS:

  • Take a look through your studio and find 1-2 works of art that you are ready to part ways with. Please keep all works under 24”x24” inches!

  • Submit your work! It’s totally free to participate! Submit early for the chance to have your work featured on our Instagram!

  • Drop off your work during the week of June 1st (location and drop off times to be announced). Your work will be arranged and hung by the CW team.

  • Come party with us on June 8th from 5 to 8 PM! We will have food, bevs, and live music. You will be assigned a number that will be entered in a lottery- when your number is called, you get to pick what work you want to take home!

50 4TH STREET STUDIO RESIDENCY by Collar Works in partnership with ChaShaMa

The 50 4th Street Studio Residency is designed to provide emerging and underrepresented Capital Region artists with space and community to develop new work. Located in the former Union Bank in downtown Troy, NY, the urban studio residency program is open to the public and embeds artists in their community while providing them with no-cost studio space. Six artists will be selected for each 3-month residency session, during which they will have 24-hour access to large shared studio spaces with natural lighting in the heart of downtown Troy.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed for the first session (June- August) on May 28th, 2024. Reviews for the second session will be held on July 11th.

In exchange for free studio space, artists will be asked to welcome the public into the gallery space during open hours, as well as participate in potential public events such as open studios and Troy Night Out events. Each artist will be responsible for gallery sitting for 2.5 hours a week during their residency.

Our goal is to provide space and access for all, regardless of differences of race, age, color, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, national origin, migratory status, disability/abilities, political affiliation, veteran status and/or socioeconomic background.

ELIZABETH MURRAY ARTIST RESIDENCY

The Elizabeth Murray Artist Residency (EMAR) program by Collar Works is designed to provide emerging, underrepresented, and established artists an immersive, supportive, productive, and communal atmosphere for art-making and dialogue on a bucolic 77-acre farm in Granville, NY. The summer residency offers 2 and 4-week residencies for individual artists and 1-week residencies for families. In 2017, the Murray- Holman family partnered with Collar Works to design a summer residency program for visual artists, with unique opportunities for individuals and families.

Dedicated to supporting the legacy of Elizabeth Murray, Collar Works believes there is a kindred connection between its mission and what Murray’s story symbolizes to emerging artists, to those who are artists as well as parents, and to individuals who overcome adversity to achieve their vision. EMAR aims to create opportunities for artists to take risks and develop new contemporary works across many art forms, primarily visual and literary arts while engaging in meaningful dialogue with fellow residents and arts professionals.

Our goal is to create a residency program that responds to the critical needs of emerging and underrepresented artists and artists as parents while offering a program that reflects the rich cultural environment of today through an active commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion. Since its inception, creating an environment that stands out as a safe space for creative risk-taking, personal growth and respite has been the core goal of the Elizabeth Murray Artist Residency.

Artist interested in submitting their work, must fill out a submission form and adhere to guidelines. Submissions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis by Collar Works staff and an exhibitions committee of artists and arts professionals.

CURATORIAL PROPOSALS- ONGOING

Emerging and underrepresented curators, working in any media, exhibiting challenging and culturally relevant contemporary artworks are invited to submit curatorial proposals for consideration across our programs. Curators interested in submitting curatorial proposals, must fill out a submission form and adhere to guidelines. Submissions will be reviewed on an ongoing basis by Collar Works staff and an exhibition committee of artists and arts professionals.
